What Is Emo? And How To Get Emo Hair

Emo was a sub genre of punk rock, very popular in the ’80s. In time the music became associated with a certain style of fashion. In todays world emo is associated more with style than with music. The typical emo look is tight jeans, figure hugging t shirts,  long fringe (bangs), straight hair dyed black or blonde, studded belts and canvas sneakers. Amongst the numerous hairstyles.

Popular amongst those who follow emo style is the scene hair, which can be termed as ’shaggy, choppy, blunt’. If you also want to sport scene layered haircut, go through the following lines and get tips to have the same.

How To Get Scene Hair

In order to have scene type hair, you need to grow your hair and bangs long enough. If your hair is too short you may want to add to extensions. Bangs should reach at least to your cheeks. If you want long bangs then you should make sure the hair goes past your chin.

* You can either get your hair cut professionally or use your own expertise.

If you are cutting the hair yourself then taper the bangs so that they cover only one eye.

As for the rest of your hair cut the layers very blocky or choppy.

The back of the hair should not touch your shoulders. It has to be kept hardly a few inches below your hairline, at the nape of your neck.

You will need to straighten your hair if needed. If your hair is straight then you are lucky and can skip this step.

* Now is the time to color your hair. The two best options are black and bleached-blonde.

* After coloring your hair, you will be required to add streaks. For blonde hair, bright blue or pink will look good. In case of black hair, it is best to go for blonde streaks.

You can style your emo scene hair further. Using wax, separate the layers piece by piece. With wax covered fingers, and pull down on the hair. The layers will stand separate from one another, looking hot. Use a light hairspray to make the hair stay in place.

All About Scene Hairstyles

There are no set ways or styles that you have to do to have scene hair, however there are certain guidelines that can be followed.

Scene hair usually has a lot of layers, and is long in the back and short at the front. You can ask your hairstylist to cut chunky layers that are shorter on top and longer on the bottom. Layers will allow you to get that poofy look, that is so popular with the scene hairstyle.Bangs are also an important part of scene hair. A lot of scene haircuts feature a bold, straight fringe or heavy bang that goes to the side or even in front of your eye just a bit. If you want to be more specific you can even take along some pictures of scene hair that you like to show to your hairstylist.

Also there are very bold colors and extreme highlights that are added in to the hairstyle. You should choose a hair color that is bold and different from your natural color. Do not be afraid to be different and experiment, however blond or black are the most popular with scene hair. If your hair is a brown color then think about dyeing it a jet black or even a black blue color. These colors will stand out much more than a normal, dull brown color.Neon colors, such as bright pink, green, yellow can add strong contrast to your scene hair and make other tones stand out.

You will need to backcomb and tease your hair a lot to get that poofy look. You are going to need a teasing comb and a lot of hairspray. Rave hairspray is highly recommended (get the aerosol can NOT the spray kind). Start by dividing your hair in to sections, lift a layer and spray the roots with hairspray. Hold the hair up allowing a few seconds for the spray to dry.

Using the comb start to tease your hair, work from the middle of your hair down to the root. Hairspray the hair you just teased and then repeat these steps until your entire head is done. Make sure it all looks even and spray down the stray hairs. Scene girls love to accessorize their hair with accessories such as hair bows, hair clips, hair barrettes, flowers and wide headbands.
